For a millennium, three opposing forces of humanity have fought a bitter and bloody war over their conflicting and unwavering beliefs. This is an old chestnut in relativity theory. Those two things can't both happen at the same time. But there is no velocity in the radial direction so the radius stays the same size. The circumference of the wheel is travelling very fast so by the Lorentz contraction, its length get shorter. Suppose you observe the rotation from a "non-rotating" position. If someone pins a package orĮven if you assume you can make a massless wheel that can withstand the internal stresses caused by the centripetal acceleration, this won't work, because there is no such thing as a "rigid" rotating body in special relativity.
